NHS Fee Schedule

We are pleased to publish NHS fees for a selection of common types of dental treatment. These fees are only a guide and are for patients receiving and paying for NHS treatment. For more information on the NHS and dentistry, visit the NHS Choices website. NHS has a tool to help people decide if they are eligible for NHS exemptions.

Simpler Charging – Increased NHS dental charges from 1 April 2018 If you normally pay for NHS dental treatment, there are three standard charges. The amount you pay depends on what treatment you need.

NHS dental charges

There are three NHS charge bands.

Band 1: £22.70 includes an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.

Band 2: £62.10 includes all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).

Band 3: £269.30 includes all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges. For more information, see What is included in each NHS dental band charge?

What if I need more treatment?

If, within two months of completing a course of treatment, you need more treatment from the same charge band or a lower one, for example another filling, you don’t have to pay anything extra. However, after two months, you will have to pay an additional band charge.

Emergency treatment

Emergency dental treatment will deal with the problem at hand and the fee for each emergency visit is currently £22.70. You may be advised to make another appointment for a separate course of non-urgent treatment. In this case, you will have to pay a second charge in the relevant treatment band.

Denplan Care is a payment plan designed to help you budget for your private dental care to help you maintain or improve your oral health. The plan also includes worldwide dental injury and dental emergency cover (Supplementary Insurance) and access to Denplan’s 24-Hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline. The Helpline Advisors will be able to offer practical help and advice should you need it in a dental emergency wherever you are. Click on the links below to find out more about our payment plan.

About Dental Payment Plans

Denplan Care is a monthly payment plan which provides cover for your routine (check-ups, x-rays and hygiene visits) and restorative (crowns, bridges or fillings) dental treatment. The amount you pay is based on your oral health and how much dental treatment you will need. After an initial assessment you will be placed into one of five categories. This will determine the monthly fee.

Both Denplan Care and Denplan Essentials include dental injury and dental emergency cover and mouth cancer cover (not immediately available). You will also have access to Denplan’s 24-Hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline.

The Importance of Your Oral Health

“Dental decay is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world. It can have a huge effect on general overall health and yet it is entirely preventable, which is why it is so important that patients prioritise their oral health” Roger Matthews, Chief Dental Officer, Denplan.

Preventive dentistry is the foundation on which Denplan was built. A dental payment plan enables you and your dentist to focus on regular care to help minimise the risk factors before they cause pain and may need costly treatment.

We recommend that our patients follow a programme of preventive care using the skill of our practice team and the support of a dental payment plan.

How It Works

Your dentist will talk to you about the dental plans so that you can choose which one is right for you – Denplan Care or Denplan Essentials. A dentist at our practice will then carry out a dental assessment. The amount you pay will be decided by your dentist and is based on your oral health and how much dental treatment you will need. The payment will be collected monthly by Denplan.

Please note that there is a one-off registration charge which is equal to one month’s fee. The care contract is with your dentist and the Supplementary Insurance is with Denplan.

Denplan Essentials covers you for:

  • All check-ups
  • All dental x-rays
  • All hygienist visits (including scale and polishes)
  • Preventive advice, therapy and counselling
  • Worldwide dental injury and dental emergency cover
  • Access to Denplan’s 24-Hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline
  • Mouth cancer cover (cover not immediate)

Denplan Essentials does not cover:

  • The cost of any restorative dental treatments including fillings, crowns, bridges or dentures
  • Laboratory fees and prescriptions
  • Any treatment specified as excluded by you in the patient’s contract
  • Referral to a specialist and specialist treatment
  • Orthodontics, implants, cosmetic treatment
  • Sedation fees

If you would like to talk with one of Denplan’s Customer Advisors please call them on 0800 401 402* – they will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Lines are open from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday.

For full details of the benefits and exclusions, terms and conditions please see the Denplan Handbook.

From Our Clients

Our testimonials are taken from actual patient reviews across our estate. We are very proud to have received such positive feedback.
Delighted – Excellent Results!

I have always been very self conscious of my missing lower front tooth, my dentist discussed with me the risks and benefits of different treatments in a very thorough consultation. I went ahead with the treatment and the results are fantastic. The staff were all very helpful and made me feel relaxed through the whole experience. I don’t normally write reviews but I am so delighted I felt I had to put it in writing!

The best I have ever known

The hygienist I currently see at this practice is the best I have ever known in 50 years of regularly attending a dental practice. I thank her for being so very approachable, pleasant and informative without any loss of professionalism.

Very happy with this practice

Our family of five have been with this practice for 12 years. Have only praise for this team. All three children were referred for orthodontic work and I have had a few issues which were always dealt with efficiently. I flew in from abroad having suffered from a painful infection needing urgent treatment and saw the dentist within hours of landing. Highly recommended.”

Efficient, friendly and professional

I’d been avoiding the dentist for years due to bad experiences. Then due to a gum infection I had to make an emergency appointment at Willows Dental Practice. I have been a patient ever since. My dentist is very reassuring and very helpful.
